Where do I Update my Installation?
- First, you will want to log in to your website and head on over to the 'System Manager' component in SiteStacker.
- If there are any updates needed, then you will see a blue tag that will state however many updates there are needed since the last time you updated.
- Click on the dropdown and underneath the 'Update' section and click the first one. This will always be the most recent update.
- The list of changes will now be shown and you can then click the 'Update' button off to the right.
- Give the system a minute or two to update and your site should now be fully updated!
- Note: If there aren't any updates, then there will be a message stating that everything is up to date.
How do I Revert from an Update I made?
While in the 'System Manager Component, you will see the same items, but this time instead of looking at the 'Update section, we want to take a look at the 'Rollback' section. This is good to use just in case an update breaks your site, then you can easily revert back to how your system was before. Here are the steps:
- First, log in to your website and head on over to the 'System Manager' component.
- If there are any updates needed, then you will see a blue tag that will state however many updates there are needed since the last time you updated.
- Click on the dropdown and underneath the 'Rollback' section, click the first one. This should be the most recent one to choose out of the 3 available options (most).
- The list of changes will now be shown and you can then click the 'Update' button off to the right.
- Give the system a minute or two to update and your site should now be fully reverted back to the last update!
What are Branches and How do I Manage them?
So, when you want to test a new feature, just create a new branch. If you like the feature, you can merge it back. If you don't like the feature, you can remove the branch and no harm is done to the main branch.
To manage these branches:
- While on the 'System Manager' component page, you will see a gear icon in the bottom right-hand corner.
- Click it and you will now see the 'Settings' window popup. Note: If you do not know how branches work but would like to make changes, please let one of your IT staff or one of us at WMTEK know before making any changes!
- You can read about the different examples and mini-documentation on this window for you as a refresher.
- Make your changes as necessary on this page and then click the 'Save' button.
- You do not need to worry about the 'Is Sandbox?' section as this should be turned off for ANY live site.
